A septic tank drain field is only designed to handle a certain amount of water. When more water is put into the drain field than it can handle it becomes hydraulically overloaded. In this situation septic tank pumping is necessary.
Hydraulic overload can be caused by several things. The most common cause is leaky toilets. Another cause can be more people in the home than the system was designed to accommodate. Sometimes people just use a lot of water without thinking about how much is going down the drain.
When the system is hydraulically overloaded, septic tank pumping gives the drain field a period of rest and allows it to dry up. In the event the drain field is permanently damaged, the contractor can also get the information needed to pull a permit to either repair or replace the drain field.
