The number of people living in a home has an effect on septic tank pumping frequency. If there are only one or two people living in the home, the tank will not need to be pumped as frequently as a home with six people. As the number of people living in your home increases, so will the amount of toilet paper and waste in your septic tank.
There are certain brands of toilet paper that are better than others for your septic tank. Even though it may say "Septic Safe", that doesn't mean it is necessarily good to flush. The best way to test your toilet paper is to put a sheet in a jar with water and shake it up. If the paper doesn’t dissolve, then when flushed it will float on top of the water in the septic tank. Over a period of time, this will create a thick layer and eventually prevent water from flowing into the septic tank.
Homes with a lot of people will need frequent septic tank pumping to prevent plumbing backup and drain field failure.
