How The Terralift Works

Robby’s Septic Service has many of these great tools and one of the most useful and fascinating is the Terralift. The Terralift allows us to revitalize drain fields that would normally need to be replaced causing significant damage to the lawn.
It's Cheaper Than A New Drain Field
- Many drain fields are exhausted and no longer working properly. Previously, the only solution was to replace the drain field – a very expensive and time consuming project. The TerraLift provides a fast solution to the problem and can be used immediately, even if the drain field is overflowing and covered with water. It takes just a few hours with minimal damage to the lawn and irrigation system. The plumbing can be used almost immediately and it costs much less than installing a new drain field.
What does a Terralift do?
The Terralift uses a long narrow probe and an integral pneumatic hammer to penetrate the soil to depths of 3 to 6 feet, depending on the depth of the drain field. It then forces air into the soil at a controllable rate, fracturing the soil.
This creates a network of fissures and cracks which breaks up the biomat that is formed on the walls of the trenches and loosens the compacted soil in the drain field area. Using a second tank and parallel system, air and polystyrene pellets are injected into the fissures and cracks that have been opened, thus maintaining the passages for the percolation of water away from the trenches.
Because air tends to follow the path of least resistance, both the air and pellets will move horizontally and vertically upward through the soil. The pellets will keep the air and water passages open to ensure proper draining on a long term basis.
The operation is repeated every 4 to 6 feet, depending upon soil conditions around each of the drain field trenches.
